Yesterday I watch a tv show from NHK World, NHK Documentary. The show presenting Hayao Miyazaki, if you loves Japanese anime especially Studio Ghibli anime then you do know who Miyazaki is. Hayao Miyazaki is animated film director of Studio Ghibli which have released many amazing animated film since 1988. Many people from around the world loves the anime from Studio Ghibli (including me) and one of the Ghibli's anime, 千と千尋の神隠し / Spirited Away (2001) has won The Academy Awards. If you are looking for a nice animated film then you should watch Studio Ghibli's anime, it's really recommended!
I'm getting excited when I watch the documentary program, I mean hey it's Miyazaki you know.. I have to watch this! Lol. From this tv show I can see his personality and character and I adore him immediately. He is such a perefectionist person, hard worker and his creativity never faded although he already 75 years old (in the documentary show). Miyazaki decided to retire 4 years ago and in this documentary show (2015-2016) during his retirement day, besides makes some art to display in Studio Ghibli Museum he also as try to make a new short film using CGI technology which he never try it before (he prefer to make an animated film from a manual drawing). Working along with a group of young animators he trying to cooperate with them. Miyazaki with his perfectionist character trying to explain his idea and give the animators various inputs.
I can see that Miyazaki is an amazing person. He keep make a new creation in his old days, a hard workers, perfectionist, and full of consideration towards so many things. Although sometimes he feel exhausted and have no stamina but he still make a creation. He looks firms and fierce but he also care for his employee. In the documentary show he once scolded his young employee. He is complaining the employee's work on Studio Ghibli, but of course I think he scolded that young employee for his own good. He want the workers give the best for everything he did especially in anime production.
And there is another scene where Miyazaki watch a presentation from a graphic designer from an IT company. The graphic designer shows Miyazaki a graphic video about zombie movement for a game (or something like that, I forgot ^^;). The designer tells that he make the zombie walk using his head / his back in the video to make it looks like a real zombie and looks creepy. He make a zombie who have no idea to use his body part such as leg / foot to walk. In that moment Miyazaki pause for a moment then said that he did not like something like that, at all. When he watch the zombie video he remember his friend who is handicap. Miyazaki tells that his friend hard to make a simple gesture like doing a high five and he think that things like that video showing a weird gesture that looks like a handicap person, is not a nice thing at all. He did not like it and even ask the designer team about what purpose / achievement they want to get with the CGI technlogy. The designer team said they want to make a program that can make an animated film / drawing on his own without human helps (like a machine). The answer makes Miyazaki a little upset and disappointed. He said that people nowadays have lack of confident with their ability. Perhaps he just sad that after several years, people nowadays sometimes blinded with the technology and want everythings to be simple / replace by a machine, while Miyazaki believe every person have his own potential and need to be a hard worker, that's what I think.
After a while the short film which Miyazaki and young animators began to make a progress. Even Miyazaki got a new idea and decided to make a new movie in the future along with Toshio Suzuki, anime film producer and a colleage of Hayao Miyazaki. The movie is planned to be completed in 2019, just one year before Tokyo Olympic. I can't wait!
